Will you speak out for Polar Bears? In a disappointing move, the Obama administration has left polar bears poorly protected from one of the gravest threats to the species ? global warming. Rising temperatures are robbing polar bears of vital habitat and melting the sea ice they use for hunting and raising their cubs. Tell Interior Secretary Salazar how disappointed you are in his decision to leave polar bears without protection from global warming! Unfortunately, the Obama administration’s Interior Secretary Ken Salazar has failed to give polar bears the full protection they deserve. Following in the footsteps of the previous administration, Secretary Salazar chose to leave a Bush-era rule in place that limits this ice hunter’s protection from global warming and oil and gas development under the Endangered Species Act. Don’t let Secretary Salazar condemn the polar bear to extinction. Urge him to review the science and establish vital protection for polar bears under the Endangered Species Act! These precious animals need our help!!! Polar Bear numbers are DECREASING as a direct result of global warming, a very REAL problem.

Nobody’s condemning the polar bear population. There are about five times as many bears as there were when Elvis started singing.

2 things 1. Why does everyone care about the freaking polar bears? They are freaking monsters and they kill tons of other creatures every year. 2. They aren’t dying out. Their population is doing just fine.

Whats causing the polar bear to become extinct and how can we prevent it? I’m doing an essay on how we could prevent the extinction of polar bears. So if you could tell me what’s even causing the problem in the first place and how we could help save this species. Thanks in advance!

The pollution us humans create (cars, factories, litter, etc) is called Green House Gases and carbon dioxide(CO2). co2 is the bigger gas that creates more warmth to the earth’s atmosphere while the green house gas tears away at our Ozone layer ( see pic: http://tinyurl.com/6t4utnd) which you can see in that picture is protecting us from the suns major heat. and since the ozone layer is slowly disappearing the earth is getting hotter causing the polar ice caps to melt and the polar bears to have less and less of a home, they’re all drowning from the lack of land to live on. The only danger of the ice caps melting for us humans would be that we’d get flooded by the time all the north and south has melted. ( see this photo:http://tinyurl.com/7g62txa ) the garbage and trash that ends up in the ocean kills a lot…A LOT of sea animals which means there is less food for the polar bears and other animals that depend on the ocean for food. basically what you can do it try to stop using gas fueled auto mobiles, stop littering, and promote being GREEN yourself. pollution is causing global warming because of which the habitat of polar bears are depleting… their food sources are depleting… this is causing the extinction of not just polar bear but many other species. Pollution caused by human beings is the main problem.

Are polar bears already officially listed as an endangered specie? Pls enlighten me. I’m assigned to conduct a speech about polar bear extinction in a week and I’m terribly clueless just yet.

Supposedly, Sarah Palin sued Congress for putting polar bears on the endangered species list while Alaska was having polar bear overpopulation. As far the North & South poles go, I have no idea. Check Wikipedia.org for “polar bears.” They list practically everything.

From polarbearsinternational.org: “Scientists predict that, if current warming trends continue in the Arctic, two-thirds of the world’s polar bears could disappear by 2050. At the most recent meeting of the IUCN Polar Bear Specialist Group (held in Seattle in 2005), the world’s leading polar bear scientists reported that of the 19 subpopulations of polar bears, five were declining, five were stable, two were increasing, and seven had insufficient data to make a determination. The group reclassified the polar bear as vulnerable on the IUCN World Conservation Union’s “Red List of Threatened Species,” noting that the species could become extinct due to sea ice changes. Individual countries with polar bears have reclassified the species as well. Citing to concerns about shrinking sea ice habitat, the U.S. Department of the Interior announced on May 14, 2008, that it is listing the polar bear as a Threatened Species under the Endangered Species Act. Canada and Russia both list the polar bear as “a species of concern.” The major threat to the polar bear is shrinking sea ice habitat due to climate change. Other threats include pollution, poaching, and industrial disturbances. Hunting could become a threat if populations are not well managed.”

How can we possibly save the polar bear from extinction? 1- (How) can we still prevent all the Arctic ice from melting? 2- What if too much Arctic ice disappears… ?

Quit believing everything you read. This whole thing is political maneuvering and very little more. If it happens, it happens. It’s too bad but that’s the way it is, just like earthquakes in California. that’s a bigger threat than the polar bears having to move to dry land. What are we going to do about the earthquakes? Nothing! Why not? Because nothing can be done. It’s the earth’s doing and for a few simple minded, politically indentured, self recognition absorbed, so called scientists and politicians to be so arrogant as to try to convince the people this is something we’re responsible for, or can fix, is CRAP!! I am so SICK of hearing about this.

Cut down on our waste, it seems like a small measure but it does a lot if everyone just took the time to do it. Recycling is something that should become mandatory in all nations. Fishing laws also should be something that the government and all other parties involved should be looking at seriously as overfishing leads to starvation. Last but not least donating to conservation groups to help the fight.
