Folly Beach, South Carolina will take you just far enough away from it all to rest and wind down, so think about making your way to this captivating vacation spot as you seek to see things from a different standpoint completely.Folly Beach has a funny name for being such a safe bet. It is a barrier island that runs approximately seven miles, and it’s situated a cozy eight miles from colorful Charleston. The sand, sun and fun all comprise the makings of a great time, and combined with the rustic charm and fabled southern hospitality of the area of the country, it is just a no-fail formula for vacation success.
A favorite surfing place, the Washout, offers superb waves for those keen to try their boarding expertise. You will easily spot the Edwin S. Taylor Fishing Pier as it stretches prominently into the ocean and gathers together the fun and frivolity that piers are recognized for. Most visitors to Folly Beach County Park have the practice of frolicking down to an art, as this place makes it easy to lose yourself and be a kid again. From the outdoor umbrella rentals to the picnic areas, you and your family and friends will likely be all set to have a properly laughter-filled day on the beach.
Folly Beach is a safe haven for loggerhead sea turtles, and coming out to see them nest and set about their daily and nightly business is a big attraction. The community is focused on protecting and encouraging the protection of these gentle endangered species, so be sure to adhere to all guidelines with regards to observing and existing together with these creatures of the ocean.
Numerous eating places are around for fulfilling and even defying expectations about what makes a good dinner. Sea food is plentiful, as you would imagine, however everyone should find something to enjoy – and eat. The evening can continue as long as you would like while you meander down the road and choose from various happenin’ decks to watch the setting sun or the men and women. Conclude everything with a walk on the seashore, romance-novel style, and tell a special someone exactly how you’re feeling.
Art galleries, local creators and a phenomenon known as the Bluegrass Jam will prove the creative depth of Folly Beach’s residents, so don’t neglect your cultural side as make your way about. Dancers are also welcomed to cut a rug with members of the Islanders Shag Club. For the uninitiated, the shag is South Carolina’s state dance and it is alive and well; lessons are provided once per week and a lot other nights are a free-for-all of shagginess.
The final thing that must be mentioned is the Morris Island Lighthouse. Erosion of the beachfront has caused this magnificent landmark to be surrounded by ocean, but the actions of involved residents have helped it to be protected against further damage due to an underground steel wall. Enjoy this unique sight and the spirit of the thoughtful local community that is reflected upon it.
Now that you see a visit to Folly Beach wouldn’t be a mistake, it’s time to contemplate lodging. City/hotel recommendations for mid-north Florida or south Georgia beach vacation? I live in Jacksonville,Florida and I want to take a 3-4 day mini on the beach vacation. Preferrably within 3 hours from home. I want to stay on the beach and we are a young couple so a plaace with good restaurants and bars in walking distance would be nice. Any ideas? (Not Daytona) =)
yes , create something fun for yourself……….
I’d like to mount a campaign to encourage people not to go anywhere. Travel has become so expensive and unpleasant that it’s hard to understand why people don’t stay home. Why are we crowding our highways and airports to get someplace else? Newspapers and magazines are filled with ads trying to get us to travel. They want us to go somewhere – anywhere but home.
go to st.augustine i love that place im from jville to and this is where i go when i want to get away
Texas beach vacation closest to San Antonio. Is Corpus Christi nice? We are vacationing in San Antonio and wanted to take a few days to go to the gulf coast. What is the closest and nicest ocean beach area to San Antonio? Corpus Christi looks pretty close, is that a nice vacation/beach area? Thanks for you help.
Yes, Corpus Christi is closer. Galveston is a bit farther.
If you are looking for waves I personally would not go to Corpus I would drive I little bit further and hit Port Aransas/Mustang Island area where the beach is much nicer and the waves are a lot better.
Corpus Christi is a popular Texas tourist destination. In addition to the beaches, there are several attractions worth visiting (the USS Lexington and the Texas State Aquarium are two). But when you go looking for beaches, avoid the North Beach area near the Lexington. It isn’t even a real beach…just sand dredged up from the ship channel. For “real” beach you need to head out to Padre Island. Port Aransas is popular, Mustang Island State Park is great for shelling, and Malaquite Beach is also popular. If you want to stay close to SA, by all means head for Corpus!
Closest? – Corpus. Nicest? South Padre Island. Good in between answer? Galveston; closer than South Padre and nicer than Corpus. But you have to deal with Houston traffic to get there. If you have a few days (and not just one) drive the extra miles and pick Galveston or South Padre over Corpus. But Corpus ain’t bad.
What is the best beach vacation for mid of January where the weather is nice and sunny? I live in San Diego and I’m looking for a place in North America or somewhere near like Mexico or so..I don?t have high budget, just need to relax and have some fun and meet people.
From San Diego how about heading to Fiji or Tahiti. Check http://www.Travelzoo.com they had some great deals when I saw last. Even though Mexico is close to you, you may still end up spending the same amount as going to Tahiti or Fiji. I know Hawaii can be very expensive. There is always Miami or Fort Lauderdale a 6 hour flight.
I’d suggest Couples Negril in Jamaica. Great weather and all-inclusive. Check it out.
Where is a good beach vacation spot for teens? My friends and I want to take our Senior trip together to the beach. We live in Tennessee, and we don’t want to have to travel far. We were thinking maybe Florida. We want to go somewhere that isn’t overly crowded, but still has a lot of things for teens to do. Any suggestions?
Virgina Beach area is really nice
I live in Florida – South Beach is nice but very expensive. But there a lot of good deals on hotels because of the economy. Food and bars are expensive.
What fun stuff can I do with the kids on a Laguna Beach vacation? Would someone in the Laguna Beach area give us some ideas for things to do with 17 and 18 year old teens? We’re planning on visiting Venice Beach (been there, loved it), Universal Studios and a few other beaches during the days, but aren’t sure what would be fun for us at night. It’s me (46 y/o mom, love to stay active and do fun/crazy things), 17 y/o boy and 18 y/o girl. Thank you for any ideas!
Irvine Spectrum (shop, dine, entertainment) or try this website if you are looking for nite life: http://www.sneakysunday.com Have Fun!!
There’s not much to do in Lagun, but here’s areas i suggest you check out: -santa monica pier/ santa monica area -hollywood & highland center/walk of fame -the grove -Fashion Island -Irvine Spectrum -Galleria/Americana At Brand
Laguna Beach? It isn’t at all like what your teens saw on that stupid MTV television program. Laguna Beach is full of the Arts and Crafts crowd (some of which can be a little “strange”), and lots of very wealthy old people. Other than the beach, and window shopping at all the craft stores there really isn’t much for teens to do. they would quickly get bored. Both you and your teens would probably enjoy Huntington Beach a whole lot more. It has more fun things for teens to do, and lots of quaint shops and eateries for you to enjoy.
What should I bring on my beach vacation? My boyfriend and I are going to Destin Florida for our one year aniverary together. I’ve never been on a vacation alone before( I’m 19) , and cant really come up with anything to bring other than a beach bag , towls, sunscreen, and ice chest.
don’t forget your sunglasses, hats, swimwear, something to read, a nice flipflops, your IpoD maybe – and plenty of your energies and excitement. that would be enough for a nice beach vacation.
