They’re adorable, cuddly and utterly vulnerable. Polar bears capture the admiration and attention of individuals the globe over for their fluffy bright furs and huggable size. They amass appreciation from animal enthusiasts for their hunting talent and survival strategies in one of the harshest environments on Planet. However despite their overpowering attraction these giants are in hazard of being wiped off Earth totally.
Ice melting ought to be a primary focus of conservation energies for the polar bear as this is impacting the polar bear the most. Polar bears count on large blocks of floating ice to perform their day-to-day actions associated to surviving. Polar bears prey on fat-laden seals from these stops of ice, they mate, as well as some even deliver their cubs on them. The problem with the ice melting is that many polar bears have gone hungry for the reason that there is actually not ample ice for them to hunt their prey. This influences their ability to reproduce and bring their cubs to term that instantly impacts population amounts. Also, when ice is actually likewise a long way from land, polar bears will definitely drown trying to swim a long way distances to find them. All of these factors have made the polar bear more land bound.
Intercession in the form of government controls to reduce human impact has actually been actually highlighted as a concern in America and other countries. In addition, private companies as well as interest groups continue to lobby as well as perform with the government to guard this valuable pet in its natural habitat. Apart from government intervention, further research regarding global warming is actually vital so that the temperature adjustment are able to be actually stopped or altered. There are agencies that are raising money for this very function. One more method communities are actually helping the polar bear is actually to make use of experienced bear patrol agents to keep the land bound polar bears from people as well as to make certain that the bears are actually not contending as well firmly with the individuals for the food sources on land.
You can get included in the quest to conserve the Arctic Polar Bears by functioning instantly by having the Globe Wildlife Fund. Start the rewarding journey today by dropping by Polar Bears at World Wild Life.
DOES ANYONE HAVE FIGURES FOR EXTINCTION OR ENDANGERING ON POLAR BEARS? please include references!!!
no they wont go extinct and neither will pandas because people think they’re cute and cuddely but over 70 species of animals and insects in the amazon go extinct everyday due to logging
Information below was pasted from the website provided , hope it helps! Current Polar Bear Status: As of May 2008 the U.S, lists the polar bear as a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act. Russia considers the polar bear a species of concern. What?s happening? Today, scientists have concluded that the threat to polar bears is ecological change in the Arctic from global warming. Polar bears depend on sea ice for hunting, breeding, and in some cases, denning. Summer ice loss in the Arctic now equals an area the size of Alaska, Texas, and the state of Washington combined. Polar bears range from Russia to Alaska, from Canada to Greenland, and onto Norway’s Svalbard archipelago?the five polar bear nations. Biologists estimate there are 20,000 to 25,000 bears. About 60% of those live in Canada. At the 2009 meeting of the IUCN Polar Bear Specialist Group, scientists reported that of the 19 subpopulations* of polar bears: 8 are declining 3 are stable 1 is increasing By comparison, in 2005: 5 were declining 5 were stable 2 were increasing *Insufficient data to determine the fate of the other 7 populations
Aussies: Can you please save the polar bears before the whales? I was watching my country’s news talking about how to import minke whale throats or something, and I was quite surprised that the news talked about it so casually! Ordinary Japanese people don’t seem to realize that whaling is a bad thing because whale slaughter has been a part of our culture for centuries. They don’t realize that it’s something wrong to do TODAY. But then the news changed to polar bears in danger of extinction. Australians, how about doing something to save the polar bears rather than throwing stink bombs at Japanese whaling ships? I think it’s much more useful than trying to save the whales because the Japanese are stubborn and ignorant they probably won’t give up for quite a while. The polar bears need urgent help. Well I’m saying, if you’re going to do “something”, why not help the polar bears? The Japanese suck so it seems they don’t want to do anything.
The polar bears are dying because of global warming. There are a lot of nations responsible for global warming namely U.S.A,Europe,Australia,ASIA and the list goes on. Whaling is predominately done by the Japanese. It is those Japanese whalers who are responsible for the death of the whales. No one else! I sincerly hope that Australia will not give up on trying to save the whales from the claws of the whalers. As for saving the polar bears? What is your country doing about that?
Two reasons: 1 The whales actually swim past our coasts on their migration. 2 Japan is hunting whales in our backyard. I would be very surprised if your “traditional” whale hunts were carried on using factory ships in the Southern Ocean.
Unlikely, if the worst happens and the polar ice caps melt, the polar bears would simply adapt. It is known that polar bears can walk on water and would probably just stroll to Iceland or maybe Canada where as we all know, they would live off Coca-Cola which they got for christmas.
The polar bears will be fine. They are not conditioned to accept the global warming hype like humans are.
If you believe in global warming you probably believe in evolution. If you believe in evolution, you know that animals adapt to their environment. So….no polar bears will not become extinct. And if this so called “global warming” exists, it is moving at an extremely low rate, giving animals enough time to turn into monkeys again.
Do polar bears have dounsydrome? Quite often you hear of the polar bears and their struggle with extinction. mostly due to the rising temperatures in alaska and the melting of sea ice. this raised the question… what compells an animal to sit on a block of ice and wait for it to melt? my only logical answer to this is… they have dounsydrome.. all polar bears. Or possibly some sexually transmitted disease such as a syphilis like illness that if gone untreated could possibly cause extensive and serious nerve damage to the polar bears prefrontal cortex affecting their judgement and thinking process.
Either you are joking or are not really thinking straight. Polar bears have absolutely no notion of there being anything existing outside of their current living range. They don’t migrate and move far enough to understand that there is something like Florida in the world, hence they stay put. Given that you assumed they would know what you do, perhaps the following question is not insignificant: what exactly made you assume that they would seek out better conditions, in other words why did think they would know about better places? What is YOUR excuse?
Downs Syndrome is trisomy 21 (3 copies of chromosome 21 instead of 2). It is specific to humans. Polar bears do not sit on a block of ice waiting for it to melt. The melting ice decreases the area of their territory meaning that the bears have to compete with each other for food.
Following your own ‘logic’ I think YOU have Down’s Syndrome (I think a Polar Bear could also spell it correctly as well). – ‘Struggle with extinction’ is not a correct grammatical expression in this context. – Rising temperatures in Alaska ? Is this the only place it occurs ? Is this the only place Polar Bears are found ? Back to the drawing board for you… – ‘what compells an animal to sit on a block of ice and wait for it to melt?’ MY only logical conclusion of what made you conclude this is that YOU are illogical ! – Now, what defects do YOU have that made you write this NONSENSE ?! I will consult a Polar Bear for a logical conclusion…
Polar Bear Extinction Question? What would happen if most of the polar bears died out. Im writing a paper on them possibly going extinct. So besides from the ecosystem going out of wack what else would happen
actually, polar bears are a subspecies of grizzly bears. So they might loose that white coat and become griz, again (the ones that found their way back to land, anyhow). Uh after about half or more die… The idea of extinction is more about genetic erosion (fewer DNA gene pools mean more catastrophic population collapse than with myriad species)… So if something happens to the panda bear pop. then some other species can fill in that niche. Otherwise, bamboo might take over the world. See the permian extinction… there was fewer species and whatever caused the collapse killed off 80 to 90% of all ocean species and 70% of all land species. That’s a lot and it took five million years for the earth to recover–that’s a long time.
Other than the obvious loss of a species, the ecosystem is the biggest problem. No bears, more seals. More seals, less fish. and on and on it goes. It would take a long time to sort itself out (which it would)
Most likely not much. Most biologist and ecologist pretty much agree, that the loss of one species wont effect much of anything else. Polar bear are not going extinct. They have not been put on any list. They are a species of concern due to the polar ice caps melting. Here is something most people don’t know. During the previous warm period, that would be the one that ended near the beginning of the last Ice Age, temperatures got warmer than they are now. Polar bear survived the last polar ice melt cause by that warming. There is no reason to believe they wont survive this one. There is something that is of concern. The shipping companies are discussing opening a sea lane through the Arctic Ocean. That could be a possible nightmare. Not only for polar bear, but for the whole Arctic system. Edit: I see someone just likes to go around giving people negative votes. If someone has an issue with my answer, then contact me, we will discuss it. Or perhaps the facts and truth are not acceptable. Perhaps that person prefers to live in ignorance.
How would the death of every Whale, Polar Bear, and Dolphin harm me? All 3 of these animals eat the fish that we could be eating, if we eliminated these competitors, it would mean more fish for us. On top of it we could enjoy a nice amount of meat from these animals while we were killing them off, as well as fine fur coats from the polar bears we’d shoot into extinction. I guess that killing off all the polar bears would be harmful because we couldn’t get more polar bear coats later, but I’d be happy to hear what the loss in killing off the whales and dolphins would be, sounds like more red meat in the short term, and more fish in the long term, please tell me where I personally lose in the killing off these species that are competing against me for meat.
There is a reason for every animal on this earth..they all serve a purpose..must I explain it? Well, I don’t have enough time to try and reason to such a question….just know that not only do YOU serve a purpose, but every breathing “being” has a reason for being here.
It doesn’t harm you now, but in the future when you are older, you’ll be running out of places to go and vacation, since they’ll all be polluted wastelands.
